Hi guys, hope life is well. It certainly is for Rafa. He had an outstanding round three against Dutra-Silva. He beat the Brazilian 6-2, 6-1, 6-0 in 92 minutes. After the match in an interview he attributed his success with putting in hard work during practice sessions as well as maintaining the right attitude. I’m pretty sure he’ll stay positive for his next match up who is the Croat Ivan Dodig. This is the guy who beat Rafa back in 2011 in three sets (Montreal). There is no real reason to think Rafa will have that much trouble against his next opponent, as long as he maintains this aggressive style of play.
I got to see little snippets from both Tommy and Feli’s matches. They are doing well so far. I’m gonna cheer for Marcel on Friday, he’s up against Rajeev Ram. I forgot to cover this yesterday, but Nico lost- in the first round! I didn’t even get see him. I know that Dennis Istomin is a strong player, but I wasn’t expecting him to beat Nico. I do feel disappointed for him, as I know he is capable of producing far better results.
David played well against Roberto Bautista-Agut 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-1, 6-2. I’m giving the underdog full credit for getting the second set. Roberto was down a break in the second, with a threat of going down two breaks. But he fought back to force a tie break. After D.F. lost that he got a violation for cursing/hitting the ball in stands. Good to see him gain control again because he was able to runaway with the last two sets. It must have been a bittersweet win for David because they are friends off court who practice together- besides that David was his idol when growing up!
Will post again this weekend. Take it easy!
