As much as I didn’t care for Ferru running around looking like a human highlighter, I was quite happy with his win over Denis Istomin today. He played well and was dominating in the second set. Ferrer was able to play well off his first and second serve (compared to Istomin) and tbh the other guy made a higher amount of unforced errors. It was nice to see Ferrer’s parents in the box cheering him on.
David Ferrer plays Tommy Haas next. Haas had actually beaten Robredo on Wednesday. I feel the German does pose a threat to the Spaniard; as he was able to lift the trophy in Munich last week. I say this despite D.F. having a 3-0 H2H against Haas because he is showing vulnerability lately.
Rafael Nadal had an easy day at the office and dispatched Benoit Paire 6-3, 6-4. So far for the season his match wins are 27-2 and he is on fire. No blue clay=no complaining. He should be able to handle his next match with confidence. He’ll play the ‘General-Youzhny’ next who in turn had upset Almagro in a 3-setter 7-6, 4-6, 6-2. (My heart really is going out for Nico, he had so many upsets this year. I hope he can stay motivated for the French Open.)
Fernando Verdasco faces Tsonga tomorrow. I know it’s a huge challenge, but he beat a powerful server in his previous match. Also he has all the crowd behind him. Last year he was finally able to beat his nemesis and he does play by the motto “Impossible is nothing”!
Why haven’t the Real Madrid players come out to support their tennis-friends yet?! I so badly want to see Xabi Alonso there! 😉 Okay I have a huge crush on him. But can you blame me?
Okay Friday is almost here! 🙂
