Monte Carlo: mid-week update

Rafael Nadal started his defense for the Monte Carlo title. He’s bidding to pick up his 9th title, and even though he has officially said “I’m not the favorite”, I think most sports analysts and tennis fans will ignore this statement. He defeated Marinko Matosevic 6-1, 6-2. Sidenote: Rafa would have played Fernando, but Fer lost to the Australian. OMG, I have no idea whats happening to him anymore, was this the same player who was a finalist at this venue 3 years ago? I don’t know if one can call him injured, I mean he along with David Marrero beat the number two seeds Marcel/Marc in a stiff match 4-6, 6-2, 10-4. I wish him [Fer] well, honestly I do, but something about his way of game needs to change. Either Fer needs a new coach or he needs to put more time practicing during off-peak. It is a shame about M&M losing, they haven’t found any luck this year as a doubles duo. (It was a ‘double-y’ bad day for Marcel as he lost a tough match against Berdych 5-7, 4-6. More disappointment for Nico as he is out already, losing to Melzer (2011 semi-finalist here). from as siteSo to sum things up, Rafa is the only Spaniard still left in the main draw. Big surprise there! 😉 Take care guys…hope you’re having a good week. Hang in there the weekend is almost here.
